New!!! - ASS BITE OVERDRIVE - Overdrive Pedal - New!!!

Talos amplifiers and cabinets were designed for a particular
kind of musician — one who is unimpressed with gimmickry and gratuitous complication, who seeks absolutely the purest sound possible, and who is willing to leave the beaten path to achieve it. In designing an amplification system that meets
our demanding needs, we feel confident it will meet yours.

Basic Combo Manual

Speakers 112S | 112ST (tweeter)

The speaker cabinets are more than a little special, also. They are built from thirteen-ply
birch for exceptional strength, lightness, and freedom from unwanted resonance's. The
sides and front baffle are slotted and glued so they act as a strong single piece; the corners are done this way as well. This method of construction is used by pro-sound companies that demand strong, roadworthy sound enclosures that provide high quality sound. In order to come up with the standard "tolexed" guitar cabinet, the enclosure must actually be built wrong to allow the cabinet to be easily covered with vinyl cloth. Since our goal was to build the best sounding cabinet, we had to lose the vinyl idea and go to a tough, professional, sprayed finish, in standard black or custom colors.

Our cabinets come in three distinctive tone woods: birch ply, pine and redwood. Each of
these woods provides a beautiful, distinctive voicing: birch ply will provide a neutral tone,
where all the highs are crystal clear; pine gives a full, piano-like quality to the tone; and
redwood creates a brighter, more aggressive and focused tone.

All Talos cabinets are a closed-back design (the backs are designed to be removed) and
are designed around the installed drivers (Jensen Neo 100s) to allow them to truly achieve
their very high potential. Internal cabinet standing waves are dealt with through the careful use of convoluted foam. These cabinets sound great with any head, but really shine when used in conjunction with the Basic head. Once you hear them, you won't want to go back to ordinary cabinets!

The Basic is available in either
Head or Combo configuration. For the active touring musician, The Basic Combo was sized to ATA baggage spec to allow the unit to travel by air with its owner. In spite of it's convenient size and weight The Basic Combo is still as tonally impressive as The Basic Head. To hear The Basic Combo, check out the sound clips.

the circuits. The short signal path is highly sophisticated, using audiophile grade components (1% metal film resistors, high quality polypropylene capacitors, silver-plated/Teflon hookup wire), full power supply regulation and careful attention to the mechanical layout to minimize noise and cross talk. Even the preamp tube heaters are
fully regulated.

The three position mode tri-mode switch enables the output stage to run in triode mode
(low, 20 Watts), partial triode mode (medium, 30 Watts), or pentode mode (high, 40
Watts). Each mode has a unique sonic signature and is almost like having three distinctly
different amps in one box, giving the musician, with one switch, a flexibility and ease of use the modeling amps would envy. Even the chassis received special attention, being
made from heliarc welded aluminum instead of the cheaper steel with which most amplifiers are built. Aluminum, being non-magnetic, does not influence electrical fields within the amplifier like steel does, and therefore yields quieter, more predictable performance.

The output transformer was singled out for special attention. We could have used an off the shelf unit as most manufacturers do, but we were simply not satisfied with the performance of these units. We designed a custom transformer to utilize high induction
laminations instead of the more usual steel. This resulted in frequency response extension
in the Basic that belies its small size. The result is tight base response and smooth
extended highs. Of course, it's a bit more expensive to build it this way, but we felt the
results more than justified the costs involved.

The Basic, with only two controls and four
switches, is capable of covering a HUGE
range of subtle tonal variations, with most of
the control over the sound being transferred
to the guitar itself, where it belongs.

Once we envisioned how the musician would
interface with the amplifier, we addressed
Talos Basic and Talos Basic Combo: Operational Simplicity

The Talos Basic amplifier was conceived in response to the proliferation of overly complex
amplifiers sporting a bewildering array of controls, switches and digital modeling options.
Even if a musician discover a sound he or she likes (unlikely, in a lot of cases), the odds of
achieving it twice are low, given the number of possible settings. One amp we looked at
had over 32 controls and switches! How can a musician be expected to quickly navigate
through all that to get the sounds desired in a performance environment?
