Talos Basic Head |
Tube compliment: |
(2) 6L6GC
one 12AX7 and one 12AT7 |
Output power: |
Class A push pull, cathode biased
Triode: 20 Watts RMS
Partial Triode: 30 Watts RMS
Pentode: 40 Watts RMS
*Available from front panel “Tri-Mode” switch. |
Tone Controls: |
Fat/Brite switch increases relative gain of either high or low frequencies for
each of the two preamp gain stages. |
Gain and Drive: |
Gain controls the input level to V1b, and Drive controls the output of V1b to
the phase inverter. Pulling the Gain boosts low frequencies of V1a, and
pulling Drive boosts all frequencies in V1b settings section. |
Signal path: |
Two stages of gain from the “Hi” input and one stage of gain from the “Lo”
input. “Hi” input is voiced for cut (more high frequency gain) and “Lo” is voiced for essentially flat frequency response with slightly accentuated lows. |
Insert: |
Passive loop designed for use with a Fender tube reverb unit and an insert
cable. |
Power Supply: |
Regulated filaments for small signal tubes. Regulated plate supply for small
signal tubes. |
Speaker outputs: |
Top - 4 Ohms
Bottom - 8 Ohms |
Size: |
18"W x 14"D x 11"H |
Weight: |
32 lbs |
Bedroom Switch: |
Drops power in half on all three power settings. (Optional) |

Operating Hints |
To get started, plug your guitar into the “high” channel. Turn the Gain and Drive to three o'clock. Set
the power to low and the switch to Fat. Bring your guitar to half volume, and play. Then bring your
guitar to full volume while holding your favorite chord, and listen to the character of the amp change.
Try this with the other two power settings as they will sound more aggressive — and will introduce
their own possibilities.
The Talos Basic Head is designed to play any kind of music, without compromise — Jazz, Country, Rock, Acoustic and more. With a turn of your guitar's volume control, you can move from jazz to heavy metal — we call that “analog channel switching".
The signal path in the Talos Basic was kept very short so the amplifier would be very sensitive to
different playing styles and so that each instrument and playing style would be honestly and faithfully
reproduced.
Another design goal was to have the amp achieve full clean volume at a little over half volume on the guitar with the rest being compression and harmonics — although the amp can easily be set up to not distort at all. This can be achieved by turning the gain down. |
